Following an extraction, your dentist will typically send you home to recover. Recovery typically takes a few days. The following can help minimize discomfort, reduce the risk of infection, and speed recovery.
- Take painkiller as prescribed
- Apply cold compact to the affected area right after the procedure to help keep down swelling
- Try not to rinse or spit forcefully for at least one full day to avoid dislodging the clot that forms in the socket
- Do not drink from a straw for at least a day
