Getting a Second Dental Plan
Question: The dental insurance that I have currently though my job as a 1000.00 year max per person. Which is really not much coverage when you need more the two cleanings a year. My wife needs to have a few crowns with in the next year and she would like it all to be done around the same time but we will max the limit of our coverages. If I get a second dental plan will this be helpful to us or not? I was thinking there maybe a supplemental dental that we could pick up where it would make some sense for us.
Reply: You would first need to find a dentist that takes your current dental plan and whatever plan you are thinking about getting. Keep in mind plans that let you choose your own dentist like PPO and Indemnity plans will also come with long term waiting periods for the crowns your wife needs.
That said if you can find a dentist that is willing to combine your current PPO plan with an HMO or a dental discount plan you may be better off. The more you can reduce your cost being billed off to your current dental insurance the longer your max limitation will last you as well as you saving money. However I will state that I do not think many dentist would be willing to combine these type of plans with a PPO but nothing wrong with asking
