There are four types of dental insurance and plans available, Dental PPO’s Dental HMO’s Dental Indemnity and Dental Discount plans.  Although PPO and Indemnity are similar they are not the same. That goes for HMO’s and Dental discount plans.  I can say that all these types of dental insurance and plans do work to help save money on the cost of your dental care needs.

For a stated monthly and or annual premium (rate), you are entitled to certain dental benefits under the plan which will usually include regular checkups, basic cleanings, x-rays, and certain services required to promote over all good general oral health.

Some plans will provide broader benefits and or coverages than others and may require a greater financial contribution on your part when services are rendered. Some plans may also provide coverage for certain types of oral surgery, treatment of gum disease, or orthodontia (braces)

What is very important is that you take your time and read each plans terms and conditions so that you buy the plan that best fits your dental care needs.  In order to review our dental insurance and plan options just enter your zip code in the quote box provided above.  If you should have any questions about any of our dental plan options just call member services at 310-534-3444 as they will be happy to help you.

What to Expect After a Tooth Extraction – DentalInsuranceHealthcare.com

Sunday, May. 15th 2022 7:54 AM

After having one or more teeth extractions, you will want to take proper care in order to heal quickly and smoothly. Once a tooth is removed a blood clot is formed.  The blood clot covers the extraction site which allows the area to heal.

It will be normal for the extraction area to be tender for the first few days after the extraction.  In many cases a simple over the counter pain relief will be enough to relive any discomfort.  After having the extraction take it easy for the rest of the day. When you sleep for the first night do your best to keep your head up with pillows.

In the first day after the extraction you may have some bleeding.  Your dentist will usually provide a few gauze pads for this.  Just place the pad in the area and you should try and keep firm pressure on it.  Slight bleeding for the first day or so is normal, but if you still bleed more heavily after an hour or two, contact your dentist.

Do not rinse your mouth during the first twenty-four hours, after this period you can gently rinse your mouth using warm salt water.  You will want to rinse after every meal and snack in order to remove any bits of food around the extraction area.

Dental Sealants are still Underused by Dentist – DentalInsuranceHealthcare.com

Wednesday, May. 11th 2022 6:35 AM

According to a recent study it suggest that not enough dentist are using dental sealants to help protect back teeth.  Temple University’s dental school researchers who did the study, surveyed 595 general dentists and 176 pediatric dentists. The dentist were asked about whether they would use sealants on teeth with different signs of early decay. They also were asked how they felt about using sealants in different groups of people.

In 2008 the ADA endorsed the use of sealants n teeth with the earliest stages of decay. In these stages, a molar or premolar is discolored on its chewing surface, but there is no cavity in the tooth yet. Research has shown that sealing teeth like this can prevent cavities. However the new survey found that many dentist do not either know about the ADA panel’s advise or the dentist that do know do not agree with it.  It also show that Pediatric dentist were more likely to follow the recommendations then general dentist.
